I remember as a kid when the most famous honeymoon destination was Niagara Falls (Either on The American or Canadian side) Man have things changed over the years with the Caribbean catering to a lot of the honeymoon market either on a lavish resort or on a cruise visiting numerous islands on the Eastern or Western part. I had booked my honeymoon a year before the nuptials since I was in the travel business and very excited about the trip. Right after the wedding reception, around 3am in the morning, we went to the airport to fly to Miami where we went on a Norwegian cruise line ship for a week long trip on the western Caribbean waters. Once the cruise was over, we flew the next day to Jamaica for 5 nights at a resort that used to be called Ciboney Resort Ocho Rios but stopped existing about 25 years ago (It is now part of the Sandals Resort in Ocho Rios and The Beaches resort before that). We flew back to Miami after that and stayed i more night before going back home. We have returned to Jamaica a few times after our honeymoon and it has always been one of our favorite destinations. Why? The Scenery, The People, The Food and of course Reggae Music. A great combination that is unique to the island of Bob Marley! I will write in more detail about Jamaica soon, in a post of its own.

The honeymoon market has evolved these days to add destinations like Greece and the Greek Islands, Spain, Portugal, Italy and the South of France. There are also luxury cruise lines that cater to this part of the world. I know of many relatives and friends that have taken this route for a different type of experience.

We used to speak about destinations in terms of budget, that is no longer the case because you can now find luxury anywhere you go, regardless of destination. You can have a very expensive, luxurious honeymoon in the Bahamas as you can in Positano, Italy. Travel is very personal. The couple has to find a destination that will appeal to both individuals to make the trip memorable. That is after all the point. One may like hanging out at the beach and the other may enjoy local landmarks and excursions. When I was getting married in 1993, the internet was not what it is today. In today's world, you can research anything about any destination, any hotel or resort, any airline, excursions before you make a decision. There are reviews also which may help or make things harder. We will soon be looking at a few of our favorite destinations and resorts. Stay Tuned!
